Pollinator & Monarch Plant-Your-Own Garden Collection

49.00

We all know that the monarch population has decreased in recent years, due to multiple reasons ... and I often hear from gardeners that they want to help fix this. One person can make a difference, but the more of us that grow for the pollinators, the better!

We are excited to be in a position to help our local gardeners make a difference in the pollinator world. Working together with a local perennial company just up the road from us- one of my favorite wholesale places for local plants that thrive in our environment- we've put together a Butterfly Garden pollinator package, with emphasis on hosting Monarchs. In it you will get a variety of perennial plants hardy to our zone, enough to fill a a 4x7 space as the plants mature. You’ll get both Milkweed + nectar sources, bred to thrive in our funny, bipolar PA climate.

It's important to note that in a successful butterfly and monarch garden, you need to have milkweed for the caterpillars to feast on and also nectar sources for them to feed on when the caterpillars hatch into butterflies. You’ll see many other pollinators too especially swallowtails and we often see assassin wasps on our fall pollinator plants as well-these are great for the plants in your gardens as they are beneficial bugs!

This package has everything you will need, you just supply the dirt and the labor to get them growing.

If you're interested, please read all the way down to catch ALL the details!

Note, this is for local pickup only. I wish we could ship these but we just aren’t setup to do so right now!

What is this?

A package of 14 plant 3” plant plugs, made up of about 7 varieties which will bloom all through the season from summer to fall. These are perennials which mean that they will establish this first year, then next year they will be larger and third year typically they leap and get quite large! It’s a long-term investment that just requires a little care. They will require full sun (or at least almost full sun!) in order to grow to flowering maturity.

The plants will mature to fit into a 4x7 estimated spacing, with the package you will also receive a suggested planting plan, but feel free to deviate if you want to fit the plants into your own garden plan.

We have put together a list of flowers that we expect to have in this package, but the variety may vary slightly depending on plant availability. Regardless, you will get a great collection of healthy plugs that will thrill you AND the local pollinators when they bloom.

What plants do I get?!

It will most likely be a selection of specialty varieties from the following-specific varieties can change depending on sowing results:

Milkweed aka food for the caterpillars. You will get 6 plants total of 2 varieties. Monarchs eat the milkweed like crazy though so be prepared. You may not be able to host that many caterpillars the first year, but second and third year it will improve.

Plants loved by Pollinators:

Ruby Star Echinacea -very popular in local test gardens for pollinators

Phlox Jeana- a favorite of Swallowtails but loved by Monarchs as well

Aster Raydon's Favorite -a favorite of pollinators!

Solidago Solar Cascade -beautiful in fall and always covered in pollinators on our farm

Aster Bridal Veil - a wonderful groundcover, cascading aster perennial

Do I get instructions?

Along with your pollinator garden will come planting and growth instructions. These kits will be ready for pickup estimated around mid-May, and should be planted out within a few weeks to be sure that your plants start growing as soon as possible and get ready for the summer onslaught of the pollinators.

What if I want to host more pollinators?

The goal was to price and put together a 'starter' pollinator garden package for our local customers who wanted to plant a small’ish patch for the pollinators- nothing overwhelming- just fun to try.  So if you want MORE flowers and to host more pollinators than listed above, simply order more than one package. Double or triple the fun! Don’t forget these are perennials and will multiply over time.

PICKUP SPOTS:

Pickup spots for the pollinator garden collection will be one of the following:

HOW TO PURCHASE:

Select your # of collections you are purchasing below and then choose your pickup location in the pulldown. Please make sure you choose the proper spot because changing it later is a manual process and we try to keep things as automated in the system as possible when working with lots of small details.

You'll receive a basic confirmation email for your purchase; and then an email from us sometime in mid-April to confirm the dates for May pickup once we get closer to being ready with the plants. We don't like to email you too often; but you're always welcome to drop us a note to confirm an order or ask a question!

Please SHARE this with your friends and family if they like to garden and grow beautiful things AND help our pollinators at the same time. I am putting a few of these in at the farm this year too and am so excited about it.

Thanks so much for your support and love of our little farm! It's because of you that I constantly strive to think up new ideas on how to bring flowers to our customers-- I know how much people love our flowers, and want to encourage you to grow your own for fun as well!

Please note, we are unable to accommodate refunds after March 1 due to seed sowing & growth requirements.
