2024 Curated Cut Flower Garden Collection

2024 Curated Cut Flower Garden Collection

from $105.00

Calling all aspiring flower gardeners! Love flowers and always wanted to try growing some of the varieties you see from us on your own? You're in luck.

In 2019, we put together a carefully curated cut flower package for our local garden loving customers and the reviews were great. People loved growing their own cut flowers in their little gardens, and we had some customers who cut all the way through October. This will be our SIXTH year offering this to our customers and they just love it.

Details:

A specially curated package of 20 plant plugs, made up of 6-7 varieties of annual cut flowers that will bloom for you from typically summer to early fall. They will require full sun (or at least almost full sun!) in order to grow to flowering maturity.

We have put together a list of flowers you might see in the collection below, but the final choices will be based on how the plugs grow for us. Every so often we get a crop failure and need to sub. Regardless, you will get a great collection of healthy plugs that will thrill you when they bloom. This collection below is very similar to what was sold last year.

Also, this year you have the options to add on 3 dahlia tubers of our selection to round out your annual garden this year for enjoyment or cutting!

What plants do I get?!

Some examples:

Fluffy double apricot/wine/white/lavender/rose tall cutting Lisianthus

Feverfew/ Matricaria / Ammi / other filler flowers

Feathery Plume or Cockscomb Sherbet Celosias

Specialty Rose/Orange/Peach Zinnias

Pinky/Rose/White/ Apricot Strawflowers

Bicolor/Cranberry/Picotee/Double White Cosmos

Eucalyptus- bonus

What makes this so special? I can get plants at Home Depot.

We are giving you a specially curated 'Easy to Grow’ selection direct from our very own cut flower plugs, so you will get the same exact flowers we will be growing in our fields this year. You cannot find these flowers at the local nursery-they are specifically grown for cut flowers. We have trialed and failed so many flowers in our 6 years as cut flower growers, and these are our favorites, while also being easier to grow.

Our zinnias aren't the common bright orange types, but specialty peaches and roses, the lisianthus are specialty cut varieties that we sell thousands of, such as double apricot and fluffy whites and lavenders. Everything is designed to grow alongside one another and bloom at similar times in our climate and give you a bloom time across a period of 6-10 weeks.

Could you order seeds and starts plants yourselves? Of course! But you don’t start these from seeds, we do that for you, the same way we do most of our plants for the farm, and we treat them as our babies until they get into your hands. They will be mature plugs and ready to plant and grow. They may seem tiny when you get them- but trust me they GROW!

You can also add on 3 mixed dahlia tubers, our choice from our very own dahlia tubers we plant out in our field. Dahlia make a great combo with these cut flowers in vases—but they will most likely not start blooming until around August—whereas your cut flowers should start in July.

A few words of love from some of our loyal cut flower garden customers:

“I loved the cut flower garden. It came with detailed directions and everything was completely ready to go, so all I had to do was put it in the garden and water, and watch it grow! It was really fun to have a variety of flowers that came together to make bouquets throughout the summer. Would highly recommend!” (Adelle T)

“I’ve grown the cut flower garden twice and will definitely be ordering again! Cutting a bouquet for myself is my morning ritual before I sit down to drink my tea. It’s the best investment I’ve made for myself.” (Lucy G)

Do I get instructions?

Yes! Along with your cut flower kit will come a full page of planting and growth instructions. The feedback on our instructions was positive—our customers said that we provided everything they needed to know to grow these flowers. Most of our customers have found that these are surprisingly easy to grow plants.

These collections will be ready for pickup estimated around mid-later May, and should be planted out within a week or so to be sure you get flowers as soon as possible. Please be sure to prep your bed when we send you the email about pickups coming up.

What size of space do I need and how many flowers will I get?

20 may sound like a lot of plants, but it is not. The plugs are smaller than a 3" pot-we grow most of our annuals in 50 trays which is about 2” per cell, but will grow to maturity, and flower within 2-2.5 months after planting. These plants can fit neatly in a small space-you don’t need a big garden. You can put all 20 of them within a 5x7' space or similar.

You will get 2-3 of each type of flower, lisianthus you will get 6 (3 of 2 varieties) and each type of plant varies with how many flowers it will grace you with. For example zinnias, you might get 5-10 flowers off each plant. Lisianthus you will get about 2-3 stems off of each plant. If you want one package to enjoy in the garden, and one to cut from, by all means get two collections.

What if I want more flowers than this?

The goal was to price and put together a 'starter' package for someone who just wanted to dabble in growing some plants for cutting this year, nothing overwhelming- just fun to try. So if you want MORE flowers than listed above, simply order more than one package. Double or triple the fun!

Don’t forget you can add the dahlia tubers in to make your bouquets really special.
